Kitara Target Crucial Win After Vipers Slip

•Kitara Vs NEC – Hoima

Kitara will look to cut the gap at the top of the Uganda Premier League when they host NEC FC at Royals Park in Butema on Saturday.

After leaders Vipers SC were held to a 1-1 draw, Kitara now have an opportunity to capitalise in the title race.

Currently third with 54 points, a victory would move Kitara into second place and reduce the gap to the summit to just three points.

However, they face a tough challenge against an NEC side that has proved difficult to beat.

Kitara will also be without goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige, who begins a two-match suspension following a ruling by the FUFA Disciplinary Panel after his incident involving Vipers forward Milton Karisa.

NEC are unbeaten in their last 16 matches, a run stretching back to their 2-1 defeat to KCCA FC in December.

They have also kept nine consecutive clean sheets since their 1-1 draw away to Vipers in February.

The visitors head into the fixture on the back of a 1-0 victory over BUL FC, with Innocent Media scoring the decisive goal at the FUFA Technical Centre.

That result lifted NEC to fifth place on the 16-team table with 47 points, leaving them 13 points behind leaders Vipers at the start of the day.

The first-round meeting between the two sides produced an entertaining 3-3 draw at Lugogo. Joseph Sseremba, Joseph Dhata and Emmanuel Kulanga were on target for NEC, while Gaddafi Wahab, George Ssenkaaba and Emmanuel Alex Wasswa scored for Kitara.
