The 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSA) National Boys’ Football Championship kicked off on Monday in Lira.

Hosts Lira Town College endured the worst possible start to the tournament, suffering a 3-1 defeat to Masaka City’s NUMASA Secondary School in Group I.

Hassan Wasswa, Moris Seguya, and Fahad Bukenya were on target for NUMASA.

In the same group, FEASSA champions Bukedea Comprehensive South cruised to a 4-1 victory over PP Newtown, with Simon Wanyama and Bob Atendere each scoring a brace.

Record champions St. Mary’s Kitende, who are desperate to end a rare two-year trophy drought, began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against tournament debutants Bukedea Comprehensive North.

Defending champions Buddo SS, who edged St. Mary’s Kitende in a dramatic penalty shootout during the 2025 final in Ngora, opened their title defense with a 2-0 win over Teso College Aloet. Aaron Okello and Hilary Tumwine scored the goals for Buddo SS.
