Uganda Junior national basketball teams will not be travelling to Egypt for the rescheduled 2026 FIBA U18 AfroBasket Zone Five Qualifiers!
This, follows FIBA Africa’s decision to revoke the Uganda’s hosting rights over concerns related to the recent Ebola outbreak.
The tournament, which was scheduled to take place at the Hoima City Stadium Indoor Arena from June 14th to 20th, was moved to Egypt and will now be held from June 10th to 15th.
According to the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations, the late change in venue and dates has created logistical and financial challenges.

FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi says the Uganda U18 boys’ team will not travel to Egypt.
The Junior Silverbacks had hoped to use home advantage to secure qualification for the U18 AfroBasket Championship.
The Junior Gazelles had already secured qualification for the continental championship in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, after reaching the semifinals of the 2024 tournament.
This, is a big blow for the teams that have been training for the past weeks at Lugogo.
