Dr. Kato Sebbaale has won the first quarter of the I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series after topping the leaderboard in the quarterly tournament held on June 20 at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo.
Sebbaale emerged best from a large field of golfers after accumulating 242 points from his six best rounds, earning a Callaway Quantum driver as the top prize.
“I feel great. This is a strong field of players and winning is a wonderful feeling,” Sebbaale said. He played 15 rounds during the first quarter and praised the tournament format for giving golfers multiple opportunities to improve their scores.
Defending champion David Plendelreith finished second with 232 points. Lake Victoria Serena Golf Club captain Jimmy Mugerwa and Gift Shoko tied for third place on 227 points, while former minister John Byabagambi placed fifth with 225 points.

Lake Victoria Serena Golf Director Theo Van Rooyen revealed that nearly 100 golfers participated in the opening quarter, completing a total of 479 rounds. He expects participation to increase in the coming quarters as more golfers join the competition.
Representing I&M Bank CEO Robin Bairstow, Chief Financial Officer Timothy Musiime said the bank remains committed to creating value beyond traditional banking through partnerships that connect with customers’ lifestyles and interests.
“Golf in Uganda continues to grow steadily through increased participation at clubs, corporate tournaments and junior programmes. The I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series is proud to contribute to that growth,” Musiime said.
Musiime also competed in the subsidiary event and finished runner-up with 43 points. Alex Guma won the category with 44 points, while Nobuyoshi Kida, Eric Miller and Isaac Nsereko tied on 40 points.
In the side-bet competitions, Katy Kabenge won the Ladies Nearest to the Pin award, while Jasi Rommel claimed the men’s prize. Nerima Shaminah won the Ladies Longest Drive competition and Brian Omeda took the men’s title.

Prize winners received a range of rewards, including golf apparel and gifts from tournament sponsors.
I&M Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications Annette Nakiyaga said the number of players completing more than 10 rounds in the first quarter was a positive sign, indicating many participants are already on course to qualify for the season-ending awards.
“For I&M Bank, this level of engagement is both encouraging and motivating. It strengthens our commitment to the series and inspires us to make the experience even more rewarding for participants,” Nakiyaga said.
The second quarterly tournament of the I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series, sponsored by I&M Bank, Kenya Airways and Lake Victoria Serena, will be held on September 12.
