The first quarterly tournament of the 2025 I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series will be held this Saturday at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, with a strong field expected to compete.
Interest in the series has been high since its return, with 136 golfers registered by press time and nearly 100 already having completed rounds ahead of the competition.
The enthusiasm has been evident throughout the week, with some golfers playing up to 17 rounds as they chase qualification for quarterly and season-ending prizes.
Among the early frontrunners are reigning champion David Plenderleith, Sebaale Kato, Jimmy Mugerwa, Gift Shoko, Francis Nshekanabo, John Byabagambi, Alex Guma, Maxie Muwonge, Duncan Kaggwa and Philip Mutebi.
The quarterly tournament is open to both Serena 63 members and non-members, with prizes available across several categories. However, golfers seeking eligibility for the season’s major rewards must complete at least six rounds per quarter and a minimum of 18 rounds overall.
Lake Victoria Serena Golf Director Theo Van Rooyen said the club is prepared to host the season’s first major event.
“We are looking forward to welcoming golfers for the first quarterly tournament of the year. The course is in good condition and we are ready to deliver a memorable experience for all participants,” Van Rooyen said.
I&M Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications Annette Nakiyaga welcomed the strong turnout, describing it as a sign of the tournament’s growing appeal.
“We are excited to see the Serena 63 Golf Series back on the calendar and attracting such strong interest from the golfing fraternity. It motivates us to continue investing in platforms that bring people together through the game and demonstrates the value of the Serena 63 Golf Series,” Nakiyaga said.
Participation in the series remains open to both members and non-members at a one-time registration fee of UGX63,000.
The Serena 63 Golf Series is named after the course record of 63 set by Kenyan golfer Dizmas Ndugala during the third round of the 2019 Uganda Golf Open at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa.
