Five clubs, including Express FC, have not been granted licences to compete in the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.
Lugazi FC, UPDF FC and promoted sides Kataka FC and Blacks Power are the other clubs that were denied licences ahead of the new campaign.
In a statement, FUFA said the clubs failed to upload all the mandatory club licensing requirements.
Meanwhile, clubs whose stadiums were not approved, including KCCA FC, have been directed to secure an approved venue by July 30.
Eight clubs – KCCA FC, Vipers SC, NEC FC, SC Villa, URA FC, Police FC, Kigezi HomeBoyz and Ntugasaze FC – have been granted full licences after fulfilling all mandatory, obligatory and best practice club licensing requirements.
Five clubs – Kitara FC, Entebbe UPPC FC, Maroons FC, BUL FC and Mbarara City FC – have been granted conditional licences.
FUFA said the five clubs met all mandatory requirements but still have outstanding issues under the best practice criteria. They have until August 15 to fulfil the specified conditions.
Why Express FC was denied a licence
According to FUFA, Express FC failed to meet several club licensing requirements, including:
•Not having a women’s team.
•Not operating a G2 Academy.
•Fielding a youth coach without the required specialised youth coaching certificate.
•Failing to submit satisfactory proof of payment of salaries owed to players and technical staff, contrary to the financial criteria.
•Not having an official club domain email address.
•Not having verified social media accounts.
•Not having a designated training ground
