Magic Stormers booked their place in the National Basketball League women’s semifinals after defeating Pearl Queens 65-54 in the decisive Game Three of their quarterfinal playoff series at ABJA Park in Naalya.
The victory sealed a 2-1 series win for Magic Stormers, who bounced back after Pearl Queens had levelled the best-of-three contest on Sunday.
Stormers took control early, punishing Pearl Queens’ sluggish start.
The Queens managed just five points in the opening quarter to trail 14-5 before Stormers stretched the advantage to 36-18 at halftime and never looked back.
Eve Grace Namuli recorded a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Susan Eben scored a game-high 16 points and Kur Ajah added 15.
Daphine Adong also made a big contribution with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists as the fourth-seeded Stormers advanced.
For Pearl Queens, Jane Chisome Iriele posted a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Rose Adhiambo and Djenabo Ballo added 14 and 11 points respectively.
The newcomers struggled throughout, committing 32 turnovers and making just three of their 22 attempts from beyond the arc.
Magic Stormers will now face top seeds JT Lady Jaguars in the best-of-five semifinal series, while KCCA Leopards, who swept UPDF Lady Tomahawks, take on UCU Lady Canons in the other semifinal.
