Watoto Church has launched the third edition of the Hope on the Green Golf Tournament, with this year’s event targeting to raise UGX 450 million to empower 1,000 vulnerable mothers through business starter packs and livelihood programmes.
The week-long tournament will run from August 3 to 8 at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala, bringing together professional golfers, elite amateurs, caddies, corporate teams and development partners in a competition that blends sport with community impact.
The championship will tee off on August 3 with the caddies’ competition before elite amateurs compete from August 5-7.
The professionals will also begin play on August 5, with their tournament concluding on August 8, when the event culminates in the main corporate golf day featuring sponsors, partners and invited guests.
This year’s tournament forms part of Watoto Church’s long-term vision leading to its 50th anniversary in 2034, with the ministry aiming to empower 10,000 vulnerable mothers across Uganda and South Sudan over the next eight years.

Speaking on behalf of Watoto Ministry Team Leader Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo, Pastor Edward Mwesigye, the Pastoral Team Leader, said the tournament demonstrates the church’s commitment to transforming communities through practical support.
“We are inviting individuals, companies and friends of Watoto to join us in raising UGX 450 million to empower 1,000 vulnerable mothers with business starter kits. When a mother is empowered, her family becomes stronger, her children have a better future, and the entire community benefits,” Mwesigye said.
He added that for more than three decades, Watoto has supported vulnerable women and children, describing the tournament as an opportunity for golfers, sponsors and well-wishers to contribute towards sustainable livelihoods for struggling families.
Beyond the fundraising objective, the tournament will also provide competitive golf across three categories with a total prize structure of UGX 34 million.
Professional golfers will compete for a UGX 20 million kitty, with UGX 5 million dedicated to the Watoto cause, leaving UGX 15 million in prize money. A separate professional shoot-out will carry a UGX 2 million prize fund.
Elite amateur golfers will battle for a UGX 10 million kitty, with UGX 4 million supporting the charity initiative and UGX 6 million awarded as prizes. Caddies will compete for UGX 2 million, half of which will go towards the fundraising campaign.

Uganda Golf Club CEO Farayi Chitengwa welcomed the return of the tournament, saying the partnership continues to demonstrate golf’s ability to unite people behind meaningful causes.
CFAO Mobility Uganda, one of the tournament partners, reaffirmed its support for the initiative, with Marketing Manager Isaac Tegule commenting that investing in women entrepreneurs creates stronger families and contributes to Uganda’s economic development.
A contribution of UGX 450,000 will enable one mother to receive a business starter pack and holistic support, helping her establish a sustainable source of income and provide for her family.
