KCCA FC begin their 2026 FUFA Super 8 campaign against BUL FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Saturday with ambitions that stretch far beyond the pre-season tournament.
For the Kasasiro Boys, the competition is more than just a chance to prepare for the new season. It is the first step towards what the club hopes will be a successful 2026/27 campaign after years of disappointment.
KCCA have not won the Uganda Premier League title since the 2018/19 season, and the pressure of an eight-season title drought continues to grow.
The tournament also offers head coach Brian Ssenyondo an opportunity to assess his squad, particularly the new signings, in a competitive environment.
Yunus Sibira (Kitara FC), Maxwell Owachgiu (Buhimba United Saints), and former SC Villa duo Charles Lwanga and Elvis Ngonde are among the club’s new arrivals.
Defender Hassan Muhammad has also renewed his contract and is expected to remain a key figure at the heart of the defence.
Ssenyondo was recently promoted to head coach, with his former co-coach Jackson Magera now serving as his assistant.
Off the pitch, however, KCCA still have work to do.
On the eve of the new season, the Uganda Premier League secretariat released the 2026/27 fixtures without KCCA after the club failed to submit an approved alternative venue.
Their home ground, Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, was not cleared by the FUFA Club Licensing Committee.
The club remains confident that the outstanding issues—including improvements to the technical bench, artificial turf and floodlights—will be addressed in time.
Ironically, some FUFA Super 8 matches had initially been scheduled to be played at Lugogo before FUFA moved the entire tournament to Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
While fans will remain anxious until the stadium issues are resolved, positive results in the Super 8 could provide some encouragement ahead of the new campaign.
The Super 8 quarter-finals will be played over two legs, with KCCA aiming to overcome BUL FC and secure a place in the semi-finals.
Should they progress, the Lugogo-based side will face the winner of the quarter-final between NEC FC and Entebbe UPPC FC.
