Uganda Cranes defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-0 in an international friendly played at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday.
Youngster James Bogere and Kelvin Owusu Boateng scored a goal each as Paul Put’s side secured victory in the first of two friendly matches between the teams.
The game also saw Uganda come up against former head coach Sébastien Desabre, who guided the Cranes at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Desabre is now in charge of DR Congo and will have an opportunity to respond when the two sides meet again on Monday, October 5.
Paul Put made several changes to the team that defeated Libya 1-0 in Hoima on Tuesday in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
David Uboh Akpan made his Uganda debut in goal, while midfielder Abdoulaye Sissako also made his first appearance for the Cranes. Both players impressed on their debuts.
Uganda took the lead in the seventh minute after Bogere capitalised on a goalkeeping mistake to put the Cranes ahead.
The lead was doubled after the break when Sissako made a surging run through the middle before setting up Boateng, who calmly finished to make it 2-0.
Substitute Frank Ssebuufu came close to adding a third, but his effort struck the crossbar.
The result gives Uganda further momentum ahead of the second friendly against DR Congo on Monday.
DR Congo currently lead Group E in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers after victories over Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe.
Uganda, meanwhile, sit top of Group H after drawing 1-1 away to Tunisia before beating Libya 1-0 in Hoima earlier this week.
