The Mountain Dew UG3x3 Nationwide Series will feature seven qualifying stops across Uganda in its 2026 edition, with increased prize money and a grand finale scheduled for November 28 in Kampala.
Launched on Thursday, the third edition of the competition will run from October 10 to November 28, providing a platform for emerging basketball talent while promoting the growing popularity of the 3×3 format across the country.
Mountain Dew has renewed its commitment as title sponsor for the third consecutive year, with brand manager Grace Namutebi highlighting the company’s continued investment in youth through sport.
Namutebi said the partnership was driven by the shared values between Mountain Dew and 3×3 basketball, describing the game as fast-paced, expressive and closely connected to the energy of young people.
She added that the competition offers young teams from different parts of the country an opportunity to showcase their talent and participate in an increasingly popular version of basketball.
FUBA Technical Director Nicholas Natuhereza also emphasised the importance of domestic 3×3 competitions, particularly as Uganda’s women’s team continues its pursuit of qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games.
According to Natuhereza, tournaments such as the UG3x3 Series not only help players prepare for international assignments but also provide valuable ranking points that contribute to Uganda’s international standing.
He thanked organisers Red Rhino Sports and Mountain Dew for sustaining the competition, noting that more local events are needed to strengthen the country’s preparations for international competitions.
The seven qualifying stops will be held in Mbarara, Mbale, Mukono, Gulu and Kampala, with the top 20 men’s and women’s teams earning places at the national finals.
Each qualifying stop will have a total prize pool of UGX 2 million, with the winners in both the men’s and women’s categories taking home UGX 500,000 each, while runners-up will receive UGX 200,000.
The national finals will carry a combined prize pool of UGX 7 million, with UGX 2 million going to each category’s winner and UGX 1 million to the runners-up.
The series begins in Mbarara on October 10 before moving to Kampala on October 17, Mbale on October 24, Kampala again on October 31, Mukono on November 7, Kampala on November 14 and Gulu on November 21. The grand finale will take place in Kampala on November 28.
