City Oilers have confirmed the departure of head coach Andrew Tendo days after the conclusion of the 2026 National Basketball League season.
Tendo leaves after guiding the Oilers to their 11th consecutive Finals appearance, but they fell to Nam Blazers in a high-octane Game Seven, suffering their second straight Finals defeat.
The result ended a remarkable era for the Oilers, who had won 10 consecutive league championships before losing back-to-back Finals to the Blazers.
Tendo had spent more than a decade with City Oilers, initially serving as an assistant to Mandy Juruni before taking over as head coach following Juruni’s departure to Rwanda in 2023.
He led the Oilers to their 10th championship, beating KIU Titans in the Finals, but could not reclaim the title in the two seasons that followed.
Before moving into coaching, Tendo enjoyed a successful playing career with Falcons before joining City Oilers, where he eventually retired and transitioned into coaching.
He has also served as head coach of Uganda’s junior national teams and was part of the coaching staff of the senior national team, the Silverbacks.
With Juruni now back in Uganda, the former Oilers coach is widely expected to return to the head coach position. Juruni worked with the team behind the scenes during the playoffs as the Oilers reached the Finals.
