Ugandan centre Martina Anyango has completed a move to the United States after signing with Texas Tech Lady Raiders for the 2026-27 season.
The 6-foot-4 centre joins the Lady Raiders from UCU Lady Canons, where she enjoyed a standout 2026 season and helped the university side win the National Basketball League championship.
Anyango was named the NBL Playoffs Most Valuable Player after averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds during the postseason.
She also collected the Best Centre and Top Rebounder awards and was named to the league’s Best Five Team.
She produced several outstanding displays during UCU’s championship run, including 28 points and 16 rebounds against KCCA Leopards in the semi-finals and 27 points and 11 rebounds in the series-clinching victory that sent the Lady Canons into the finals.
In the championship series, Anyango recorded 70 points and 73 rebounds as UCU secured their ninth national title. She finished the decisive game with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Her success extends beyond the domestic league. In 2025, Anyango helped UCU claim bronze at the FISU 3×3 Basketball World Cup, becoming part of the first African university team to reach the semi-finals and finish on the podium at the tournament.
She now joins Texas Tech head coach Krista Gerlich and the Lady Raiders ahead of the new season, which begins on November 5 against Charlotte at the United Supermarkets Arena.
Texas Tech enters the campaign after a 26-8 record last season, including a 12-6 mark in the Big 12, finishing fourth in the conference and reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013.
