NEC FC has confirmed that forward Richard Basangwa is in stable condition after suffering a serious throat injury during their Uganda Premier League goalless draw against Express FC at Nakivubo Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Basangwa was injured in the 90th minute after a dangerous challenge from Express defender Glory Kisule, who appeared to strike him with an elbow to the neck.
In a statement released on Wednesday, NEC FC said Basangwa underwent a CT scan, which returned negative and ruled out any serious internal damage, after he was admitted at Case Clinic.
“A paracetamol infusion was administered and a CT scan was promptly carried out. The CT scan results came back negative, ruling out any serious internal damage.
“His condition has since improved significantly. He is now able to breathe more comfortably and can speak in a low but clear tone.”

The Incident:
The NEC forward showed signs of distress, struggling to breathe and speak after he hit the ground following a dangerous foul in the 90th minute.
Referee Joshua Duula quickly stopped play, awarded a foul, and sent off Kisule for the dangerous challenge.
Medical personnel rushed onto the field to attend to Basangwa, who remained down for several minutes and at one point appeared unconscious.
The situation was made worse by the lack of a functional ambulance at the stadium.
Reports indicate the ambulance on site had no medical equipment and also had a flat tire, forcing officials to improvise.
A Toyota Land Cruiser was driven through the main gate, and Basangwa was placed inside and rushed to Case Hospital for urgent medical attention.
