Mbarara City registered their first win of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season with a 2-1 victory over Blacks Power at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge.

Rogers Mugisha and Eric Tumwine scored for the Ankole Lions, while Innocent Maduka netted the consolation goal for the visitors.

“I commend the players for their attitude today. This will push us into our next games. We take this as our season starter and hope to build on it in the coming games,” said assistant coach Zaidi Byekwaso.

Mbarara City had opened their campaign with a defeat to Police before drawing goalless with NEC and Entebbe UPPC.

They also suffered a 1-0 away defeat to Ntugasaze, leaving them without a goal before Sunday’s victory.

Meanwhile, Blacks Power have now lost three consecutive matches after defeats to BUL and Vipers.

Coached by Simon Peter Mugerwa, Blacks Power had started the season strongly, winning their opening three matches against Ntugasaze, Police and Maroons.
