SC Villa thrashed Police FC 6-1 at Kamwokya on Wednesday to move joint top of the Uganda Premier League table.
Frank Ssebuufu scored twice, while Ibrahim Kasinde, John Asiimwe, Patrick Jonah Kakande and substitute Jonathan Sausa netted a goal each for the Jogoos.
Bedia Djuma Ikamba scored Police’s consolation goal as the Cops suffered another heavy defeat.
Police came into the game seeking a response after losing 3-0 to Entebbe UPPC, while Villa were looking to bounce back from a 1-1 draw away to Kataka.
However, it took Villa just nine minutes to break the deadlock, with Kasinde finishing off a well-worked corner routine.
Asiimwe, who joined Villa this season from rivals Express FC, doubled the lead after being set up by Ssebuufu, who then made it 3-0 before halftime by tapping home Isaac Mpagi’s cross.
Villa continued their dominance after the restart, with Kakande capitalising on poor defending to score the fourth goal less than five minutes into the second half.
Ssebuufu completed his brace on the hour mark, connecting with Kasinde’s cross to put the Jogoos five goals ahead.
Police pulled one back six minutes from time after Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago failed to hold a routine catch, allowing Ikamba to bundle home the rebound.
But Villa restored their five-goal advantage just two minutes later when youngster Sausa came off the bench to score his maiden goal for the club.
The victory sparked celebrations among the travelling Villa supporters as the Jogoos registered their fourth win of the season.
Villa move level on 14 points with NEC, who defeated Kigezi Homeboyz 2-0 at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge, although their position at the top depends on the league’s tiebreakers.
The Jogoos remain unbeaten in six matches since opening their campaign with a draw against Kitara.
