Maroons FC compounded Kataka FC’s struggles in the Uganda Premier League with a convincing 4-1 victory at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku on Tuesday.
Abel Eturude, Fred Amaku, Darius Ojok and Jackson Nunda scored a goal each as Maroons secured their third win of the season.
Eturude opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, tapping in from close range at the far post to give the hosts the lead.
Amaku doubled Maroons’ advantage in the second half after skillfully going past Kataka’s Brazilian defender Sacramento Dos Santos Jose Walace before finishing.
Substitute Ojok made it 3-0 after dispossessing Martin Wambi and slotting the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.
Nunda then added a fourth with a well-placed curling effort that went in off the post, a minute after hitting the woodwork.
Kataka pulled one back in the 90th minute when Latif Ssenkubuge tapped home a cross from Tumwine Abdulwahab, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
The defeat, Kataka’s fifth in seven matches, leaves the Mbale-based side without a win in their debut season in the top flight.
Kataka remain second from bottom with just two points, earned from draws against UPDF and SC Villa.
Maroons, meanwhile, climb to sixth place with 10 points from seven matches.
