KCCA FC’s Uganda Premier League match against UPDF FC was abandoned after eight minutes on Thursday following a floodlight failure at Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
The Matchday 7 fixture kicked off at 7:00 PM on October 22, 2026, but was stopped after eight minutes when the stadium was plunged into darkness.
Players waited on the pitch before returning to the dressing rooms as officials dealt with the situation.
In a statement, KCCA FC apologised to fans, UPDF FC and other stakeholders for the disruption and disappointment caused by the incident.
“The Club is treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves and will work with the relevant stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” KCCA said.
The club added that it was awaiting further communication from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) regarding the match and any subsequent decisions.
The Uganda Premier League Secretariat also confirmed the abandonment and said it was awaiting reports from the match officials.
“The Secretariat is currently awaiting the Match Officials’ reports for onward submission to the FUFA Judicial Commission (FJC) for investigation and a final decision,” the league said.
The FUFA Judicial Commission will investigate the incident and determine the next course of action after receiving the officials’ reports.
Under Rule 31(5) of the 2026 FUFA Competitions Rules, a match affected by floodlight failure must be suspended for up to 30 minutes while officials attempt to restore the lighting. If the lights are not restored to the required standards within that period, the referee must abandon the match.
The final decision on the abandoned fixture is now pending the relevant reports and the FUFA Judicial Commission’s determination.
