FUFA Fines Express Over Faulty Ambulance Incident

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has sanctioned Express FC following the ambulance incident during their Uganda Premier League match against NEC FC at Nakivubo.

The incident occurred in the closing stages of the match after NEC FC’s Basangwa required urgent medical attention following a collision with Express defender Glory Kisule in the 90th minute.

Basangwa was struck by an elbow in the neck during an aerial challenge and reportedly lost consciousness on the pitch.

Medical personnel quickly rushed onto the field, but the situation turned chaotic when the ambulance stationed at the stadium was found to be unfit for emergency use.

The ambulance reportedly had no medical equipment and also had a flat tyre, making it impossible to transport the player to hospital.

FUFA has fined Express FC Shs1 million, payable within 14 days, and advised the club to strictly adhere to medical requirements.

“The FUFA Disciplinary Panel reviewed an incident arising from the SUPL match between Express FC and NEC FC in which the ambulance at the venue was unable to transfer an injured player due to a mechanical issue.

“Express FC was charged under Rule 39 of the FUFA Competition Rules for failure to ensure availability of a functioning ambulance when needed.

“Upon review of the submissions by Express FC, the Panel found Express FC in breach of Rule 39(4) of the FUFA Competition Rules.

“Express FC has been fined UGX 1,000,000 payable within 14 days and advised to adhere strictly to medical requirements to avoid bringing the game into disrepute,” FUFA stated.

During the incident, NEC FC officials were forced to improvise and rushed Basangwa to Case Clinic in a Land Cruiser for urgent treatment.

Express FC later issued a statement expressing regret over the incident.
