The Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB) has been unveiled as an official partner of the Ankole Cup 2026.

This, marks a strategic partnership aimed at promoting sports professionalisation through competency-based assessment, certification, and curriculum development.

The partnership, announced on Thursday at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala, comes days before the start of the much anticipated Quarterfinals.

The Ankole Cup has grown into a key platform for identifying and nurturing football talent across the Ankole region while attracting support from government leaders, sports administrators, corporate partners, and football enthusiasts.

Speaking at the unveiling, UVTAB Principal Communications Officer Narasi Kambaho said the partnership aligns with the Board’s mandate under the TVET Act, 2025, to assess and certify competences acquired through formal and informal Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as develop competency-based curricula and training packages across various occupations, including sports.

“This partnership marks the beginning of a shared commitment to professionalise sports in Uganda through assessment, certification, and the development of competency-based curricula for sports occupations,” Kambaho said.

He noted that UVTAB will work with sports academies, clubs, and other stakeholders to establish structured pathways for training, assessment, certification, and accreditation of sports training institutions as UVTAB assessment centres. The initiative is expected to enhance the skills and employability of athletes, coaches, referees, trainers, and other sports professionals while creating clearer progression pathways from grassroots competitions to national and international levels.

Ankole Cup players’ ambassador Paul Mucureezi welcomed the partnership, describing it as a major boost to sports development in Uganda.

“I thank UVTAB for supporting the Ankole Cup 2026. This initiative will contribute to the growth of sports professions in our country,” Mucureezi said, urging players to compete with discipline and determination as the tournament presents opportunities to showcase their talent.

Organising Committee Chairperson for Publicity Osborn Mushabe also commended UVTAB’s sponsorship, which includes tracksuits for the two finalist teams and Members of Parliament, press jackets for media personnel, sponsorship of the Man of the Match award, and support for referees throughout the tournament.

“UVTAB’s contribution is a huge boost towards the success of the tournament, and we are grateful for the sponsorship,” Mushabe said.

UVTAB joins a list of sponsors for this year’s Ankole Cup that include Wandaz Cosmetics, Tayari West, Pinnacle Hotel, NIRA among others.
