Botes Names Teen Cranes Provisional Squad for CECAFA U-17 Championship

Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team head coach Sheryl Botes has named a 31-player provisional squad for the 2026 CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship set for June 13-23 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Teen Cranes have been drawn in Group B alongside South Sudan, Zanzibar and Djibouti. Matches will be played at the Azam Complex Stadium in Chamazi and KMC Stadium.

The provisional squad comprises players drawn from the FUFA Women Super League, FUFA Women Elite League and secondary school football competitions.

The team began residential training on Monday at FUFA Hotel in Kisaasi as preparations for the regional tournament intensify.

Uganda will be hoping to make amends after suffering elimination from the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers by Kenya following a goalless draw in the return leg played on Saturday at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

Uganda will open its campaign against Djibouti on June 14 at the Azam Complex Stadium before facing Zanzibar on June 16 and South Sudan on June 18, with both matches scheduled at KMC Stadium.

The championship will provide another opportunity for the Teen Cranes to showcase their progress on the regional stage under coach Botes.
