Kataka FC has secured promotion to the Uganda Premier League!
The Mbale-based side sealed their return to the top flight with a 2-0 victory over Bright Stars at Bugolobi on the final day of the season.
Ali Sentamu and Usama Kayemba were on target against a Bright Stars side that needed a result to avoid relegation.
Sentamu converted from the spot after Bright Stars’ Sharif Nsereko brought down Isaac Owiny in the area.
Khayemba put the game to bed in the 86th minute, bundling in after a neat pass in his path following a long kick from the goalkeeper.
Kataka join Blacks Power, Kigezi HomeBoyz and Ntugasaze as the four teams promoted to the Uganda Premier League.
It’s a strong achievement from Godfrey Toldo’s side after years of trying in Uganda’s second tier.
The club has been toiling in the second tier since 2017/18 season.
They came closest in the 2021/22 season when they went into the final matchday of the season top, only to lose to Kyetume and finish outside the top 3 to miss out.
That was a chaotic ending, in a match marred by fighting that led to points deductions for the following season.
It was a mixed start for the side, losing four of the opening eight matches before but won four of their last six, despite a walkover defeat against Kaaro Karungi.
