The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has intensified its fight against match-fixing after sanctioning five individuals over manipulation of a Uganda Premier League match between Lugazi FC and Buhimba United Saints FC played in November 2025.
Buhimba United Saints players Fred Nkata and Moses Ayebale have each been banned from football for five years, while teammate Ramadhan Dudu received a two-year suspension.
The club’s Technical Director, James Kalumba, was also handed a five-year ban.
Former player Ali Feni received a lifetime ban after investigators found he coordinated match-fixing activities and acted as a link between players and match-fixers.
The latest sanctions add to a growing list of Ugandan football officials and players facing severe punishment for match manipulation.
Earlier this year, FIFA extended worldwide bans to former Express FC coach Mike Mutyaba, former Express FC CEO Miiro Ashraf Mwanje, and goalkeeper Emmanuel Kalyowa and former captain Ashraf Mbazira for their roles in match-fixing during a 2024 league game against Kitara FC.
Other Ugandans serving FIFA-recognised sanctions include former Calvary FC player Saleh Maganda, former Northern Gateway player Franco Oringa, and former Gaddafi FC players Godfrey Lwesibawa, Yahaya Mahad Kakooza, and Andrew Waiswa, who are all serving five-year bans.
Referees George Nkurunziza and Deogracious Opio are serving 10-year suspensions.
FUFA says the sanctions are part of ongoing efforts to protect the integrity of the game, with all affected parties retaining the right to appeal in accordance with football regulations.
