Nabisunsa Relegated After Defeat to Miracle Eaglets

Nabisunsa Women’s Basketball Club will play in the FUBA Division One next season after suffering relegation from the National Basketball League following a 77-70 defeat to Miracle Eaglets on Saturday at Abja Park.

The result confirmed Nabisunsa’s drop from the top flight with two regular-season games still to play.

Heading into the contest, Nabisunsa needed to win all their remaining three games to keep their survival hopes alive.

However, the challenge was always going to be difficult for a side that has struggled for consistency throughout the campaign, with fixtures against JT Lady Jaguars (Sunday) and holders JKL Lady Dolphins still awaiting them.

Against Miracle Eaglets, Nabisunsa appeared to have a realistic chance of collecting a vital victory and made a bright start, taking a 24-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.

However, they failed to maintain the momentum and were outplayed in the second half as Miracle Eaglets fought back to secure the crucial win.

The defeat was Nabisunsa’s 16th of the season in 20 games, a record that ultimately sealed their fate.

Abigail Mpoza led Nabisunsa’s scoring with 18 points, while Martha Yikuri and Ketra Joy Auma added 16 and 13 points respectively.

For Miracle Eaglets, Akello Winfred delivered a dominant performance, recording a double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds to help her side secure safety in the division.

Nabisunsa were heavily outrebounded 67-51 and received just 14 points from their bench in the loss.

They now join Angels as the two teams relegated from this year’s 12-team National Basketball League.

At the other end of the table, the top eight teams will advance to the playoffs, while the teams finishing ninth and tenth will miss out on postseason action and await the start of next season.
