Uganda’s two representatives at the CAVB Men’s Africa club volleyball championship – Nemostars and Sport-S – start their compaign on Thursday.
Nemostars are first on court against Petro Jet of Egypt at 11am Ugandan time at the BK Arena.
The Ugandan side finished 19th in Libya last year but will look to replicate their best outing in 2019 when they finish 6th in Egypt.
The 6-time Ugandan champions are pitted in a tough group that also has hosts APR (Rwanda), National Customs Services (Nigeria), Litto (Cameroon) and Black Rhinos (Zimbabwe).
Nemostars who added new head coach Godfrey Okumu, bolstered their squad with new signings Daudi Okello, Emma Elanyu, Mark Omara, Hussein Adome and Titi Okumu.
Sport-S on the other hand, face Equity of Kenya at the Petit Stade at 1pm Ugandan time.
This is the first time Sport-S are taking part in their competition and the Ugandan league champions will be hoping for a perfect start.
But they will miss the services of starting setter Moses Odeke who is sidelined by an injury.
They are in a challenging Pool B that also has Al Ahly (Egypt), Cameroon Sports Volleyball, Kepler (Rwanda), and AS Injis (Ivory Coast).
The top four teams in the six-team group progress to the knockout.
The tournament kicked off on Wednesday night with hosts APR beating Zimbabwe’s Black Rhinos 3-0 at the BK Arena.
