Watoto Golf Tournament Seeks to raise Sh450m to support Vulnerable Mothers

Watoto Church Uganda has launched the 3rd edition of the Watoto Golf Tournament 2026 with a call for partners, golfers and the public to support vulnerable mothers and their children.

The tournament, held under the theme “Hope on the Green,” was officially announced during a press briefing at Uganda Golf Club in Kitante. It brings together golfers, corporate leaders, sponsors, development partners and members of the community to raise funds aimed at restoring hope and improving lives.

This year’s tournament seeks to raise UGX 450 million to support 1,000 vulnerable mothers with business starter packs and other empowerment opportunities. A contribution of UGX 450,000 can help one mother start or expand a small business, enabling her to earn an income and provide better for her family.

Speaking during the briefing, Watoto Church Ministries Senior Pastor and Team Leader Julius Rwotlonyo thanked partners, golfers and supporters for standing with the cause and encouraged more people to participate.

He said the tournament is an example of how golf can be used to create positive change beyond competition.

“Golf can be played for a career, competition or friendship, but it can also be used for a greater cause. Watoto Golf is about bringing hope to vulnerable mothers. Our goal this year is to see more than 1,000 mothers empowered through their businesses because when a mother is empowered, her family is also transformed,” Pastor Julius said.

He added that the tournament gives the golf community, businesses and individuals an opportunity to come together and make a lasting impact.

The tournament started on Monday, 3 August 2026, with the Caddies’ Competition at Uganda Golf Club, where 59 caddies participated in the opening event.

The Elite Amateur Competition and Professional Golfers’ Competition began on Wednesday, 5 August. The amateur event will run until 7 August, while the professional competition continues until 8 August 2026.

The tournament will conclude with the Main Event on Saturday, 8 August, bringing together corporate teams, sponsors, partners and golfers for a day of sport, networking and fundraising.

A New to Golf clinic will also be held during the final event to introduce beginners to the sport and give them an opportunity to experience golf for the first time.

Uganda Golf Club Chairman Paul Nuwagaba said the strong support for the tournament shows the confidence people have in Watoto’s mission and the importance of using golf to support communities.

He pledged the club’s continued partnership in hosting the tournament and helping Watoto achieve its vision of transforming the lives of vulnerable mothers.

CFAO Mobility Uganda, one of the tournament’s Lead Partners, is supporting the event for the third consecutive year. The company’s Brand Manager Patricia Tusuubira said they are proud to be part of an initiative that helps mothers build sustainable livelihoods.

She said empowering a mother creates a positive impact on her family, community and the country.

CFAO Mobility Uganda has also sponsored two hole-in-one prizes for this year’s tournament. Golfers stand a chance to win a Suzuki S-Presso at Hole 9 and a Suzuki XL6 at Hole 17 at Uganda Golf Club.

Patricia said the company remains committed to supporting the tournament beyond the current sponsorship period.

Other supporters include Equity Bank Uganda, which has contributed UGX 10 million towards the tournament. The bank joins several organisations supporting Watoto’s goal of empowering vulnerable mothers.

The tournament has attracted support from several partners, including Uganda Golf Club, Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA), Deo Akope Foundation, Power FM, CFAO Mobility Uganda and other organisations committed to creating hope through the sport of golf.

Under the message “Hope on the Green,” the tournament aims to show that every swing can contribute to changing a mother’s story.
