Alex Guma Wins Second Leg of I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series

Alex Guma emerged overall winner of the second quarterly event of the 2026 I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series after delivering an impressive performance at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa in Kigo on October 3.

Playing off Handicap 21, Guma registered a top-six average of 39.6 points to claim the overall title, earning a winner’s trophy and a Callaway Elyte 3 Wood.

The Gorilla Walking Safaris Director attributed his triumph to consistent practice, which he said has been made easier by his proximity to the Serena course.

“Despite a busy schedule, I always make time for the game,” Guma said.

Maxie Muwonge and Matthew Nviiri finished joint second on 39.3 points, but Muwonge took the runner-up position on countback. He received a Callaway Mack Daddy 52-degree wedge and other goodies, while Nviiri walked away with a Serena Carmel Jacket and Callaway Supersoft golf balls.

I&M Bank Chief Financial Officer Timothy Musiime finished fourth with 38.2 points, ahead of former winner David Plenderleith, who returned 37.8 points to complete the top five.

Musiime received a Callaway Travel Kit Bag and a 4.5m Ball Retriever.

Speaking at the 19th-hole experience, Musiime, delivering remarks on behalf of I&M Bank CEO Robin Bairstow, reiterated the bank’s commitment to creating value beyond its traditional banking services through experiences that connect customers, partners and friends.

He also noted the growing participation in the series, describing it as a reflection of the strength of the golfing community and the competition’s increasing appeal.

Bairstow also thanked golfers for supporting the upcoming Migingo Skirmishes, a regional event on the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series calendar scheduled for October 31 at Limuru Country Club in Kenya.

Following the inaugural edition at the same venue in 2024 and last year’s Virunga Challenge in Kigali, the competition has attracted considerable interest from Ugandan golfers expected to represent the country at another regional gathering.

I&M Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications Annette Nakiyaga said the Serena 63 Series remains an important platform for strengthening relationships with customers and partners while reflecting the bank’s ‘On Your Side’ brand promise.

“That is why we are proud to continue investing in experiences such as this, experiences that reflect our commitment to standing On Your Side, both on and off the course,” she said.

Nakiyaga also recognised the contribution of the series’ partners, Serena Hotels, Kenya Airways and new partner MTN MoMo.

In the subsidiary competition, Eric Miller claimed overall honours with 42 points, narrowly beating Abel Okuna, who finished second on 41 points after countback. Patrick Sumata also returned 41 points to settle for third place.

Wycliff Onduso finished fourth on 40 points following countback, while Edward Okech, Musiime and Andrew Bugembe shared fifth place on the same score.

In the individual accolades, Prosscovia Namulindwa won the Ladies’ Nearest to Pin award, while Gloria Mbaguta and Claver Serumaga claimed the Longest Drive honours in the ladies’ and men’s categories respectively.

The 2026 I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series will conclude on November 14 with its third quarterly event, which will also double as the season’s grand finale.
