Uganda’s U-20 women’s national team, the Queen Cranes, face Ghana today in the first leg of the final round of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers at Accra Sports Stadium.
The match is a decisive step in Uganda’s push for a first-ever appearance at the global tournament. The team is targeting a strong away result to boost their chances ahead of the return leg.
The Queen Cranes wrapped up preparations in Accra after arriving on Friday, with the technical bench focusing on tactical and physical readiness.
Head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes says the team is prepared despite the challenge.
“We have had the feel of the stadium and morale is positive. We have covered every detail to help us get a good result,” Botes said.
She added: “We know it will be difficult against Ghana, but these are the games where you show character.”
The return leg will be played on May 9 at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
Uganda who has never been at the World Cup, eliminated Namibia and Zambia to reach this stage.
The winner over two legs will qualify for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026.
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will take place from 5 to 27 September 2026.
