Namuwongo Blazers’ 15-game unbeaten run came to an end on Wednesday following a 73-71 defeat to Rezlife Saints in the National Basketball League.

Playing in front of their home fans at Rezlife Court in Lubowa, the Saints produced a spirited performance to edge the defending champions.

Edrine Ekau starred for the hosts with a game-high 32 points, shooting an impressive 7-for-14 from beyond the arc.

Duot Ajang added 14 points, while Hon Kwany and Chris Omanye chipped in with 11 points each as the Saints recovered after trailing 19-14 early on.

The two sides were tied at 51-51 heading into the fourth quarter, and the Blazers quickly opened a 58-54 lead. However, Ajang and Rin Tueny Mabor responded with crucial layups to level the score once again.

Omanye then scored five straight points to spark a decisive run for Rezlife. From that point, the Blazers were forced to chase the game as the Saints held their nerve until the final buzzer.

James Okello led the Blazers with 15 points, while Jimmy Enabu and Nyembo Fataki contributed 14 and 10 points respectively in the loss.

The Blazers struggled from long range, shooting just 6-for-25 from three-point range, and were outrebounded 48-45.

It was their first defeat since the season-opening loss to City Oilers, ending a remarkable 15-game winning streak.

Rezlife Saints have now defeated both City Oilers and Namuwongo Blazers this season — the league’s two top sides.

The victory was Rezlife Saints’ 13th in 17 games and provides a major boost as they push for what could become their best season yet.
