JT Lady Jaguars ready to pounce on depleted JKL

Friday, May 22
•JKL Lady Dolphins Vs JT Lady Jaguars – 7pm
•Nam Blazers Vs City Oilers – 9pm

JT Lady Jaguars will be aiming for revenge when they face JKL Lady Dolphins in the National Basketball League on Friday at Lugogo.

The Jaguars lost 78-68 to the Dolphins in their first-round meeting in February.

On that occasion, Brenda Ekone scored a game-high 17 points, while Ritah Imanishimwe and Melisa Talibah added 16 and 15 points respectively for the defending champions.

However, a lot has changed since then. JKL Lady Dolphins have struggled in recent weeks, suffering four defeats, excluding the forfeited result against KIU Rangers.

The side has also been hit by squad shortages, with key players such as Brenda Ekone, Shadia Nassanga and Evelyn Nakiyingi unavailable. Nakiyingi has since signed for a Tanzanian club.

JKL strengthened their squad during the mid-season transfer window with the additions of Melinda Laker and Shiphra Kiranda, but they still appear short on quality compared to JT Lady Jaguars.

Their last outing ended in an emphatic 81-48 victory over Angels, with Tamasha Nsubuga leading the way with 19 points as the Dolphins bounced back from defeat to UPDF Lady Tomahawks.

JT Lady Jaguars, meanwhile, have won 16 of their 18 games this season, with their only losses coming against JKL Lady Dolphins and Magic Stormers.

Since the narrow 47-46 defeat to Magic Stormers, the Jaguars have responded with four straight victories against KCCA Leopards, Miracle Eaglets, Pearl Queens and UPDF Lady Tomahawks.

Sarah Ageno delivered arguably her best performance of the season in the win over UPDF on Saturday, recording a double-double of 17 points and 18 rebounds.

With Ageno in fine form and quality players such as Mercy Batamuliza and Shakirah Nanvubya in the roster, JT Lady Jaguars will back themselves against the side that denied them the title in last year’s finals.
