UCU Lady Canons completed a season double over newcomers Pearl Queens with a 61-50 victory in the National Basketball League on Wednesday at Lugogo.
The Lady Canons led 36-27 at halftime and stretched the advantage to 18 points by the end of the third quarter, a gap Pearl Queens could not recover from despite taking the final period 14-7.
Martrina Anyango starred for UCU with a dominant double-double of 15 points and 21 rebounds, while Sylvia Namukwaya added 14 points in the victory.
Jane Chisom Iriele registered a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds for Pearl Queens, but her effort was not enough to inspire a comeback.
UCU dominated the boards 64-37, while Pearl Queens were hindered by an unproductive bench that contributed only four points compared to UCU’s 20.
Having earlier defeated Pearl Queens 57-40 in March, UCU have now won six consecutive games since their 74-70 loss to JT Lady Jaguars on April 24.
The victory was UCU Lady Canons’ 16th of the season, while Pearl Queens suffered their ninth defeat in 18 games.
