Hosts Uganda have expressed optimism as they prepare to mount a strong challenge at the East African Baseball5 Youth Championship.
The tournament, which has attracted four teams including Kenya, Tanzania and South Sudan, will take place from June 26 to 28 at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo.
The championship serves as a World Cup qualifier for the Eastern region, with the top two teams advancing to the continental qualifiers later this year in West Africa.
Uganda head coach Kabogoza Ibrahim said the team is in good condition heading into the competition.
“The team is in good shape, everyone is fit and ready to play,” he noted. “I am very confident with the team. Three members have won this championship before and we are building on that. We are expecting the very best.”
Kabogoza added that maintaining a positive mindset will be key if the team is to progress.
Uganda Baseball and Softball Association president John Bosco Sempa also expressed confidence on behalf of the hosts, noting that preparations have gone well, including a two-week residential camp at St Peter’s SS Nsambya.
The squad is made up of students from St Peter’s SS Nsambya, Panyadoli Self Help SS, Ashinaga Uganda, and Queens SS Nansana.
