Team Uganda has been flagged off for the 2026 FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN), scheduled for August 28 to 30 at Gallina Motocross Track in Windhoek, Namibia.

National Council of Sports (NCS) General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel presided over the send-off, pledging continued government support to the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU).

Ogwel commended FMU for embracing the compliance process and strengthening its structures following a recent verification exercise across the districts.

He said compliance should go beyond being an administrative requirement, describing it as a foundation for building accountable and sustainable sports structures capable of attracting greater government and stakeholder support.

NCS Assistant General Secretary–Technical Milton Chebet also praised the efforts of motorsport stakeholders at district and regional levels, urging them to continue strengthening the sport beyond the national level.

Ogwel further highlighted FMU’s grassroots talent-identification programmes, particularly the opportunities created for children as young as five to seven years to take up motocross.

He also recognised the contribution of parents, team managers and mechanics in supporting young riders and Uganda’s national teams.

A total of 37 riders will represent Uganda in Namibia, including 10 female riders—the highest number of women ever fielded by a country in MXoAN history.

Uganda will be seeking to improve on its recent record, having finished third in Cape Town in 2023, second in Marrakesh in 2024 and third in Victoria in 2025.

About 180 riders from across Africa are expected to compete in this year’s championship.

With a strong record on the continental stage and a record number of female riders, Team Uganda heads to Namibia aiming to challenge for top honours.
