Regional heavyweights Simba SC and Vipers SC are among the 12 teams confirmed for the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup.
Rwanda will host this year’s tournament from July 24 to August 8, with matches to be played at Amahoro National Stadium and Kigali Pele Stadium in Kigali.
Record six-time champions Simba SC return to the regional competition for the first time since 2018, when they finished runners-up after losing 2-1 to Azam FC in the final.
Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC will be aiming to win their first-ever CECAFA Kagame Cup title. They are the country’s only representatives at this year’s tournament.
Uganda did not have a representative at last year’s competition in Tanzania, where Singida Black Stars emerged champions.
SC Villa, KCCA, Police FC and Express FC remain the only Ugandan clubs to have won the CECAFA Kagame Cup.
CECAFA Interim Executive Director Jean Sseninde said the tournament will feature the region’s top clubs.
“We are excited that this tournament will give the 12 teams a platform to prepare well ahead of the CAF competitions kicking off in September 2026,” said Sseninde.
She also revealed that the 12th and final participating team will be announced on July 6, 2026.
Hosts Rwanda will be represented by APR FC and Rayon Sports FC.
Three CECAFA Member Associations—Ethiopia, Eritrea and Burundi—will not field teams in this year’s competition.
