Vipers SC’s journey at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup has ended after the Ugandan champions failed to secure a place in the semifinals.
The Venoms finished second in Group C after collecting six points, but their hopes of progressing depended on results from other groups as only the three group winners and the best second-placed team advanced to the last four.
Vipers started the tournament in impressive fashion, defeating Djibouti’s Garde Republicaine 3-0 before edging Kenya’s Gor Mahia 1-0.
However, their progress was dented in the final group match after a 1-0 defeat to hosts APR, with Kevin Dasylva Bady receiving a red card during the contest.
Gor Mahia’s victory over Garde Republicaine later pushed Vipers into second place in the group, leaving their semifinal fate hanging in the balance.
Their hopes were eventually ended when Rwanda’s Rayon Sports defeated Al Hilal 1-0 in another group, a result that saw Rayon finish top while Al Hilal claimed second place with six points and a superior goal difference.
Despite also finishing with six points, Vipers’ inferior goal difference meant they missed out on the final semifinal slot.
Under head coach Denis Lavagne, Vipers will now turn their attention to the FUFA Super Cup clash against Kitara, the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season, and the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds.
