Vipers sign Gabon international goalkeeper

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have completed the signing of Gabon international goalkeeper Loyce Marius Mbaba on a two-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 28-year-old joins the Venoms as they strengthen their squad for a busy campaign that includes the CAF Champions League, Uganda Premier League, Stanbic Uganda Cup and CECAFA Kagame Cup.

Mbaba arrives with experience from Gabon and Ivory Coast, having previously featured for Association Sportive Mangasport, Stella Club d’Adjamé and Bouaké FC.

On the international stage, the goalkeeper has earned 14 competitive caps for Gabon and was part of the squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he played three matches.

Speaking after completing the move, Mbaba expressed his excitement at joining the club.

“I’m really, really happy to be here, really excited and looking forward to what is coming,” he said.

“The ambition shown by this club to get me here is something I can’t take for granted. I am excited for what lies ahead and can promise that I will give absolutely everything to try and help the club achieve even more success.”

Mbaba’s arrival follows the departures of Alfred Mudekereza and Bashir Ssekagya as Vipers reshape their goalkeeping department after winning the 2025/26 league title.

He will compete with Denis Kiggundu and Jack Komakech for the number one spot.

The Gabonese shot-stopper becomes Vipers’ fourth signing of the current transfer window after Jacques Mangoba, Nicholas Mwere and Joel Sserunjogi.

Mbaba has been handed the number one shirt and is expected to join his new teammates in training immediately.
