Nam Blazers will look to tighten their grip on the series when they face UCU Canons in Game Two of the National Basketball League (NBL) Playoffs semifinals at Lugogo on Sunday.
The Blazers lead the best-of-five series 1-0 after a commanding 89-62 victory in Game One on Wednesday.
After a tightly contested opening quarter that ended 17-17, the Blazers took control in the second period, outscoring UCU 29-14 to build a 46-31 halftime lead. They never looked back, cruising to a comfortable 27-point victory.
Kasereka Tembo and Innocent Ochera starred with 22 and 21 points respectively, and the duo will once again be key as the Blazers seek to move within one win of the finals.
The Blazers also boast impressive squad depth, with veteran guard Jimmy Enabu featuring for just three minutes in Game One.
Tonny Drilleba, Nyembo Fataki, Peter Obleng and Anthony Chuckwurah have been influential and are expected to play important roles again.
For UCU, only Daniel Muganzi reached double figures in Game One, finishing with 12 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field.
The Canons, who were without head coach Nicholas Natuhereza, struggled offensively, shooting just 5-for-21 from three-point range while committing 23 turnovers.
Having finished fourth in the regular season, UCU face an uphill task against the top-seeded Blazers. However, the Canons will be determined to level the series before it shifts for the remaining games.
