JT Lady Jaguars defeated Magic Stormers 77-61 in Game One of the National Basketball League playoff semifinals on Friday at Lugogo.
The Jaguars raced into an early lead, taking the first quarter 24-16 before extending their advantage to 15 points, 43-28, by halftime.
Magic Stormers responded strongly after the break and won the final quarter 20-15, but their comeback effort was not enough to overturn the deficit as the Jaguars held on for a comfortable victory.
Sarah Ageno led the Jaguars’ charge with an impressive double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Brenda Kayaga and Aziida Nabayunga added 16 and 14 points respectively.

Shakirah Nanvubya also played a key role, contributing four points, six rebounds, and 10 assists.
For Magic Stormers, Eve Grace Namuli and Daphine Adong finished with 17 and 15 points respectively, but their efforts came in a losing cause.
The Jaguars’ nine three-pointers helped them stretch the Stormers’ defence early, although Magic adjusted as the game progressed. However, JT struggled with ball control, committing 33 turnovers.
Magic Stormers scored 42 points from their bench but endured a difficult shooting night from beyond the arc, making just four of their 26 three-point attempts.
The victory gives coach Suudi Ulanga’s Jaguars a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series. The two teams will meet again on Sunday for Game Two at Lugogo.
