City Oilers edged Rezlife Saints 72-66 to win Game Two of their National Basketball League semifinal series on Sunday at Lugogo.
The Oilers survived a late scare after the Saints kept the contest alive deep into the fourth quarter before the defending champions pulled away in the closing moments.
The game was tied at 64-64 with four minutes remaining, but Rezlife failed to score another basket for the rest of the game.
Germaine Roebuck, Jonathan Komagum and Joel Lukoji each knocked down crucial jumpers to seal the victory for the Oilers.
Edrine Ekau starred for Rezlife with a game-high 27 points, while Michael Otieno and Hon Kwany added 15 and 13 points respectively. However, their efforts were not enough to force a series decider.
Landry Ndikumana led the Oilers with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Patrick Rembert and Joel Lukoji contributed 14 and 11 points respectively.
The Oilers also held a 47-41 advantage on the boards and received 31 points from their bench in another balanced team performance.
Rezlife Saints will feel aggrieved by a couple of contentious officiating decisions on a night they left everything on the court.
The Oilers now head into Game Three looking to complete the series sweep and book their place in the National Basketball League Finals.
