Vipers, Kitara await CAF draw

Uganda representatives Vipers SC and Kitara FC will discover their opponents in the preliminary rounds of the 2026/27 CAF Interclub competitions when the draws are conducted on Thursday in Cairo, Egypt.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed that the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round draw will be held at 2:00pm Cairo time (11:00 GMT), before the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League draw follows an hour later at 3:00pm Cairo time (12:00 GMT).

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers will represent the country in the CAF Champions League, while Uganda Cup winners Kitara will feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The draws, to be held at CAF headquarters in Cairo, will determine the first hurdle for clubs seeking a place in the group stages of Africa’s premier club competitions. They will be broadcast live on CAF TV.

CAF has also confirmed the prize money for the competitions, with the Champions League winners set to receive USD 6 million, while the Confederation Cup champions will pocket USD 4 million.

Clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds will each receive a solidarity payment of USD 100,000 as part of CAF’s initiative to support participating teams.

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns are the defending CAF Champions League champions, while Algeria’s USM Alger enter the new campaign as holders of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Last season, Vipers who ousted African Stars, failed to go past the last hurdle when they suffered an elimination against Power Dynamos.
