Vipers SC Draw Nouadhibou FC in CAF Champions League

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have been drawn against Mauritanian outfit Nouadhibou FC in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League qualifiers.

The Venoms will host the first leg at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, between September 4 and 6, before travelling for the return fixture scheduled for September 11 to 13.

With new additions to the squad, including head coach Denis Lavagne, Vipers will be aiming to secure qualification and book their place in the group stages of Africa’s premier club competition.

Should Vipers overcome Nouadhibou, they will advance to the second and final qualification round, where they will face the winner between FC San Pedro of Ivory Coast and Nigeria’s Rivers United.

The Kitende-based side is targeting a return to the lucrative group stages, having made their only appearance at that level in 2022.

Last season, Vipers progressed past African Stars but fell at the final hurdle after being eliminated by Power Dynamos.

South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns are the reigning CAF Champions League champions.

Meanwhile, clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds will each receive a solidarity payment of USD 100,000 under CAF’s initiative to support participating teams.
