City Oilers will be aiming to bounce back when they face Namuwongo Blazers in Game Two of the National Basketball League (NBL) Finals on Friday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The Oilers are chasing the series leveller after suffering a 73-67 defeat in Game One on Wednesday.
Despite struggling for most of the contest, the Oilers can draw confidence from their fourth-quarter performance, which they won 20-15 after mounting a late comeback.
They cut the deficit to six points with just over two minutes remaining but failed to capitalise as the Blazers held on for victory.
Patrick Rembert led all scorers with 28 points but received little support from his teammates, with no other Oilers player reaching double figures.
Germaine Roebuck added eight points, while Jonathan Komagum managed just one. Titus Lual endured a difficult outing, failing to score after going 0-for-5 from the field. Joel Kayiira and Fayed Bbaale contributed six and five points respectively.
The Oilers also struggled from beyond the arc, making just five of their 22 three-point attempts, while committing 24 turnovers.
For the Blazers, Nyembo Fataki scored 18 points, Tonny Drilleba added 16, and Innocent Ochera chipped in with 15 as they took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
The defending champions will be confident of extending that advantage to 2-0 before Sunday’s Game Three.
Namuwongo Blazers defeated City Oilers 4-2 in last season’s Finals to win their maiden NBL title, ending the Oilers’ remarkable run of 10 consecutive championships.
