Super 8: NEC beat Villa to set up KCCA final

NEC FC have reached the FUFA Super 8 final after beating SC Villa 3-1 in a thrilling semifinal on Friday at Nakivubo.

The Jogoos took the lead through Najib Yiga, who dived to head home Reagan Mpande’s brilliant cross from the right.

Villa came close to doubling their advantage, but Frank Ssebuufu’s effort struck the upright.

NEC levelled 10 minutes into the second half when Richard Basangwa reacted quickest to poke the ball home after goalkeeper David Lukwago spilled a shot.

The Bugolobi-based side then took the lead on the hour mark after Simon Ssemayange turned Hakim Wandera’s well-delivered corner into his own net.

NEC sealed the victory with a superb Innocent Media strike. Media beat the goalkeeper after being sent through by a long ball from NEC goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo.

NEC will face KCCA in the final after the Kasubi-based side beat Kitara 1-0 in the other semifinal.

SC Villa will face Kitara in the third-place playoff.
