KCCA FC beat NEC FC 1-0 to lift the FUFA Super 8 title at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Tuesday.

Saidi Mayanja scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot to hand KCCA a hard-fought victory.

The penalty was awarded in the 36th minute after Yunus Sibira was pulled down by Daniel Shabene while attempting to meet Herbert Achayi’s free-kick.

KCCA were forced to defend for long periods as NEC pushed for an equaliser, with goalkeeper Mutwalib Mugolofa making several important saves.

Mugolofa produced one of the best stops of the night to keep out Enrique Lubwama’s powerful effort and preserve KCCA’s lead.

NEC also appealed for a penalty in the second half when Allan Mugalu went down after being shoved from behind by Sibira, but the referee waved play on.

Richard Basangwa had another opportunity to level the contest after receiving a pass from Innocent Media, but he fired his effort over the bar.

KCCA held on to secure their first major title in recent memory, having earlier eliminated BUL in the two-legged quarter-finals before overcoming Kitara in the semi-finals.

The triumph will give KCCA renewed confidence heading into the new season as they seek to challenge for the Uganda Premier League title, which they last won in the 2018/19 season.

NEC, who eliminated SC Villa in the semi-finals, will feel disappointed by their missed chances. However, coach Badru Kaddu can take encouragement from his side’s promising display ahead of the new league campaign.

In the other fixture, SC Villa beat Kitara 4-1 on penalties after their third-place play-off ended goalless after 90 minutes.
