Zambian golfer Gilbert Chalwe produced a stunning seven-under-par 65 to take the lead after the second round of the 2026 Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateur Open at Uganda Golf Club on Wednesday.
Chalwe delivered the best round of the championship so far, carding seven birdies without dropping a shot on the par-72 course.
He picked up four birdies on the front nine before adding three more on the back nine to complete a flawless round.
The impressive display also marked a major turnaround for Chalwe, who had opened the championship with a two-over-par score on Tuesday.
His compatriot Dominic Musonda also made significant progress, shooting a four-under 68 to move into second place and give Zambia the top two positions on the leaderboard.
Uganda’s Joseph Kasozi and John Musiimenta, both members of the national team, follow in third place after carding level-par 72s. Kasozi had started the tournament as the overnight leader.
Another Zambian, Musamba Kapoma, is fifth, six shots off the lead, while Peter Mayende, Joel Okoth and Lawrence Walakira share sixth place at four-over par.
For defending champion Cwinya-ai, however, the title defence is now hanging by a thread following another difficult round.
