Vipers SC have started their Uganda Premier League title defence with a shock 1-0 defeat to Entebbe UPPC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Kevin DaSylva Bady scored the only goal of the game, inadvertently turning Thomas Ochungo’s cross into his own net as he attempted to clear the danger.
The Venoms, who started new signing Farouk Miya upfront alongside Usama Arafat and Gusto Mulongo, struggled to create clear-cut chances throughout the game.
New head coach Denis Lavagne cut a dejected figure at full-time after beginning his league reign with defeat.

There were jubilant scenes in the Entebbe UPPC technical area, with coaches Abdallah Mubiru and Livingston Mbabazi celebrating a memorable victory against a club they have both previously worked for at different times.
The defeat was Vipers’ first home league loss since March 2024, when they fell 1-0 to KCCA, with Mustafa Kizza scoring the decisive goal.
Vipers had won the league last season with 67 points, suffering just one defeat in the process. That loss came against Kitara through a boardroom decision after the Venoms declined to honour the fixture in protest against the league format at the time.
The defeat is a major setback for Vipers, who were favourites heading into Friday’s opener after beating Entebbe UPPC home and away in the league last season.
