SC Villa collected their first win of the season after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over URA FC in a Uganda Premier League match on Friday at Nakivubo.
Reagan Mpande’s first-half strike proved the difference as the visitors walked away with maximum points.
Mpande headed home after Frank Ssebuufu had beaten his marker to a good cross from Ibrahim Kasinde, setting up the decisive moment.
The goal could have been avoided, with URA punished after losing possession. Aliro was given space to deliver a cross into the box, which eventually led to Mpande’s headed finish.
URA had a chance to level matters before halftime, but Nelson Ssenkatuka’s header from Aliro’s cross flew over the bar. Norman Namanya also came close, with a searching cross hitting the woodwork.
Patrick Jonah Kakande had a chance to double Villa’s lead after the break, but his effort rolled inches wide. Andrew Otim also tried to lob goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima, but his effort missed the target.
At the other end, goalkeeper David Lukwago produced a superb one-handed save to deny Godfrey Ssekibengo as URA searched for an equaliser.
Villa held on to secure all three points and move to four points from their opening two games, following their 1-1 draw against Kitara in their league opener.
URA FC, meanwhile, remain on three points after beating Maroons 2-1 at Wankulukuku in their opening game, with Dissan Galiwango and Abraham Tusubira on target.
