Express FC coach Morley Byekwaso has urged his players to give their best when they face KCCA FC in a Uganda Premier League Matchweek Two Kampala Derby at Nakivubo Stadium on Thursday.
Both sides will be looking to bounce back after losing their opening matches of the season. Express suffered a 1-0 defeat away to BUL in Njeru, while KCCA were beaten 2-0 by NEC FC at Lugogo.
“KCCA is one of the strongest sides in the league, but we all lost our first game of the season, so we expect a tough matchup,” Byekwaso said.
“But we hope to be the better side because we are the hosts. We need to do our best, be tactically intelligent, dominate possession and show some fight.”
Byekwaso will come up against his former employers, having previously played for and coached at KCCA FC.
Express will continue to miss Moses Sseruyidde, while national youth team players Steven Yiga, Mugisha Jonah, Katumba Abdulrahaman and Herbert Assiimwe remain doubtful.
KCCA, meanwhile, will be hoping for a response after Pius Obuya and Richard Basangwa scored to give NEC a 2-0 victory over the Cityzens on Saturday.
KCCA coach Brian Ssenyondo says his team must improve both their performance and result.
“There are two things: performance and result. After our opening match performance, we have no option but to bounce back,” Ssenyondo said.
“I expect a response from the players on the pitch from the first whistle, and I expect the team to present itself in the best way possible compared to the way we did in the previous match.”
KCCA will be without Emmanuel Anyama, Axel Mezui, Yan Gatbel and Anthony Emojong, who are sidelined.
Ibrahim Kasule, who came off the bench against NEC, is also not 100 percent fit but has been included in the travelling squad.
The last meeting between the two sides in March ended in a 3-0 victory for KCCA, with Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Sammy Ssebaduka and Saidi Mayanja finding the net.
