President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed government institutions to accelerate preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with particular emphasis on infrastructure, training grounds, roads, airport facilities and accommodation in Uganda’s host cities.
Museveni issued the directive after meeting the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Secretary General, Samson Adamu, and the National AFCON Task Force, led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, at State House Entebbe.
The President said the delegation briefed him on Uganda’s preparations to co-host the continental football tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
He stressed that the country must be ready on time and ensure that all facilities meet the required standards.
“I directed the relevant institutions to move faster, particularly on infrastructure, training grounds, roads, airport facilities and accommodation in the upcountry host cities,” Museveni said.
The directive highlights the government’s focus on completing essential infrastructure and improving logistical arrangements ahead of the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the three East African countries.
Museveni also announced plans to engage his counterparts in Kenya and Tanzania on a proposed single visa arrangement intended to ease movement during the competition.
The proposed arrangement is expected to be discussed as part of broader regional cooperation, particularly in facilitating travel for football supporters, teams, officials and other visitors moving between the three host nations.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be the first edition of the tournament to be jointly hosted by three countries, making coordination on transport, immigration, accommodation and other services a key part of preparations.
Uganda’s hosting responsibilities include ensuring that stadiums, training facilities and supporting infrastructure are ready to accommodate participating teams and visitors.
The government is also expected to coordinate with the other host nations and CAF on tournament operations and the standards required for the competition.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
