The Uganda Cranes have received a major boost in welfare and logistical support ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with Government committing to fund the national team’s entire budget.
FUFA President Moses Magogo announced a package of new measures following engagements between the Federation and Government, aimed at improving the standards and welfare of the senior national team.
Under the new arrangements, Uganda Cranes players based outside the country will travel business class on journeys lasting more than four hours.
The team will also have access to chartered flights for back-to-back fixtures where applicable, helping reduce the long travel times that can come with international assignments.
Government will also provide a new team bus for the Cranes.
The team’s accommodation standards have equally been raised, with FUFA confirming an agreement for the national team to stay in five-star hotels during camps in Uganda and abroad whenever possible.
The players will also benefit from improved bonuses and allowances.
Players who took part in Uganda’s qualification campaign for AFCON 2025 will receive a pro-rata qualification bonus of US$10,000 each following discussions with Government.
FUFA is also stepping up efforts to identify Ugandan-eligible players born or based abroad who could strengthen the national team.
Officials from FUFA and Government, together with the Uganda Cranes head coach, have travelled to different countries to meet players, parents and agents as part of the process.
Magogo said the process has been ongoing for more than a year, with some of the players expected to become available during the September, October, November and March international windows and beyond.
The new measures come as Uganda prepares to co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
Although the Cranes are guaranteed a place at the tournament as hosts, they are participating in the AFCON qualifiers in line with CAF regulations.
Uganda is currently preparing to face Tunisia away before returning home to host Libya in Hoima on September 29.
The Hoima fixture will be the first Uganda Cranes AFCON qualifier to be played outside Kampala.
FUFA says the improved support is intended to raise the national team’s standards as Uganda prepares for its home AFCON tournament next year.
